Helping the local community

For us, it’s important to invest in your local community. That means supporting the work of charities who work tirelessly to improve the lives of our friends and neighbours.

Our support goes beyond the occasional hand out. We’re constantly looking for new ways to raise money and awareness, imploring everyone – from our staff to our customers alike – to get involved in fundraising efforts to help these charities continue with their good work.

Action Medical Research

Action Medial Research helps to save and change children’s lives through medical research.

They believe that the diseases that devastate the lives of so many can be beaten. Action have been funding medical breakthroughs since we began in 1952 – like the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine – helping to save thousands of children’s lives and change many more.

Surprisingly, medical research to help children is poorly funded in the UK. Action Medical Research has a critical job to do in helping fill this gap to protect children. The prospects for finding new cures and treatments are almost within their grasp. They have vital research ready to go – but simply can’t fund it all.

Research we are funding includes: Asthma, Autism, Blindness, Brain Cancer, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, Meningitis, Premature birth, and other rare diseases.

ellenor

We’re proud to support ellenor – the leading local expert in caring for children with palliative care needs and for those who are dying. Their efforts enable these children to be cared for and die in their own homes, with care supported and coordinated by their specialist teams.

ellenor provides symptom management, through their specialist palliative care, multidisciplinary teams of Doctors, Nurses and other professionals. They also provide information, delivered skilfully in a clear manner to assist individuals in making decisions and offers advocacy support to help to make choices a reality.

Above all else, ellenor provides social, emotional and spiritual support and advice for patients, children, families and carers. Counselling and bereavement care is available both for individuals, family members and carers.

They’re a major provider of children’s hospice care and respite care for babies, children and young adults with palliative and life-threatening care needs. In addition, they provide a specialist nursing service to children undergoing cancer treatment. Through a comprehensive and well-developed transition service, ellenor supports young people to move into the adult services.

We seek to influence End of Life and Palliative Care policy and collaborate with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and others to provide public information to raise awareness of end of life issues, choices and the care and support available. ellenor offers training and support to health and social care professionals in the theory and practice of palliative care.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.

We are proud to support the wonderful work of the Macmillan nurses and take part in their Annual Coffee Mornings in order to raise much needed funds for cancer relief.

As well as this, we have made a number of donations and continue to sponsor other charities and individual cases all based around children with disability, both physical and mental, as part of our work in the community programme.
